It really can't just be you and I while I try to get to know my new insta-family?

[Likewise, Claire makes a face that that username, but she won't question it.]

He's a part of it, like it or not.

He has dogs.

[Two of them are cute. The third is Alison. Claire does not like Alison.]

[ She's trying to find herself, mother. ]

I may have been a child again for a day but mentioning dogs doesn't do much to sway me.

I'm glad it was an actual conversation before anyone made decisions.

[Don't you side with Theon, Brianna Randall.]

I wish there could have been, but there's no other option left for Theon. I'm all he has left here and he doesn't do well on his own.

[ If she knew she'd be put out. ]

You can't just make decisions for me, about who lives in my space with me?

[ She tried, she tried having a conversation with him and it was so weird and stilted, and he's been through so much that she'll never be able to fix, and so: ]

He doesn't need doctoring, he needs something beyond that.

You'll hardly notice he's here. He doesn't socialize. He's not going to do more than sleep and eat here, and even then I very much doubt he's going to do that outside of his bedroom.

You don't think I know that, Brianna? I've known him for the past year, even before he was broken into a thousand little pieces. He needs stability. He needs people that won't give up on him.

[ There's the guilt trip she was looking for. And of course, no reason she has for not wanting this will ever sound good enough compared to the torture of Theon. ]

If it's done, then I'm not even sure why we're having this conversation.

I was letting you know so you're not surprised by his being here.

He used to live here before I did.

I don't know where my home is. For all I know, it could be somewhere else in Olympia, or in Wyver, or two-hundred years in the past.

You know me. You're getting to know Fergus. If you wish, you can get to know Theon. There's more to him than the twisted parts. He's still in there.

Everyone I've met loves you, what a ridiculous question.

I tried to get to know him. He told me he loved the torture, that it was great, so no, not really feeling like digging deeper. I tried to have a normal conversation and he couldn't stop telling me I should ask questions about what happened to him.

[Yikes, Theon. Yikes.]

He didn't love the torture, Bree. He was toyed with, not just physically, but mentally, too. He's still trying to come back from that.

I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't trying to scare you away. He does that. He's terrified, all the time, and it doesn't stop.

I'm not some sort of...of counselor, mother. I'm still trying to figure out everything my life has become. It's not torture but it's twenty years worth of lies.

[ It was an unfair dig, and she knows it. But her mother's so busy trying to fix someone else, when there's still so much they need to work on together. ]

I can't be whatever he needs, whatever it is you think I could do for him. Not right now.

[I'm not asking you to be his counselor, she almost begins to type, but reads the rest of the message. It hurts. It hurts a lot, on top of Theon being so upset over Claire not telling him her story.]

I understand.

He'll stay out of your way.

[ Bree almost feels bad, almost. But why can't she be the focus for once in her life? She's been second to medical school, then second to doctoring. She has to own up to being second to Jamie - Bree told her to go, after all. But now, here she is, and aside from being forced into quarters and reminiscing about the past rather than discuss the present, they haven't talked. Not about any of it.

Not that she's going to say any of that right now. ]

[ Well, Claire definitely knows the way to Bree's heart!! She's already pulling herself away from her book and sitting up when she responds. ]

I thought you wanted me to watch my waistline?

A pancake or three won't hurt.

[ Bree smiles, then makes her way to the food before sliding into the seat she's designated as hers by virtue of being in the same spot every time and God help the person who tries to reassign her. ]
